The two reasons I am writing this blog are as follows:
In the process of answering these questions, I will take a mental journey into prehistoric times before agriculture became the main form of subsistence, and compare our hunter-gatherer roots to our modern lifestyle. I believe (and will scrutinize this theory) that farming, through its multiple stages, has caused the obesity epidemic that the western world is falling victim to. By taking this route, I will compare our modern health problems with those of pre-agricultural populations and finally get an answer to my first question. Also, by analyzing various phases of agriculture and the effects the lifestyle changes has had on people around the world, I will determine if the transformations are irreversible, which answers my second question.
The best part about this blog is that you, the reader, will understand more about why our bodies react to aspects of modern lifestyles in the way they do. Hopefully this learnt information will not go to waste, and will motivate some of you to live a healthier life.
- Writing a blog is a requirement of my Anth 128 course
- I want to discover the answer to the ever-important questions of “Were we better off as Hunters and gatherers or are we better off today?” and “Is it too late to go back?"
